Go Skateboarding Day
Since official Go Skate Boarding Day 2016 is on a Tues we decided to celebrate the weekend before so everyone could get out for it. This year at the shop on Sat the 18th we've got ramps, bands playing, and giveaways from Bones and Powell Peralta!
Come celebrate skateboarding with us and "LET THE SKATES DECIDE!"
Portland Maine has lost one of it's great skate spots: the old port medians. A long time staple in the skate community we've all dodged cars and drunks to hit them up, argued with uptight citizens who can't mind their own business (or stand anyone having fun), and been "shoo'd" away by cops. They've been painted and scuffed and painted and scuffed as public works tried to keep them "presentable" while - in my mind at least - riding them with a fresh coat just made them better.
One man's ugly is another man's dream girl. In the name of improved aesthetics and traffic flow along with making the area more pedestrian and bike friendly she joins the list of the skate spots fallen with the "cobble-stoning" of Exchange, the asphalt bank on Marginal now a drugstore, and soon the Peaks Island DIY.
We'll miss you old lady, thanks for all the great memories!
Well, it's that time of the year again where skaters around the world gather to celebrate our shared love of useless wooden toys. This year we've teamed up with Bones, Powell Peralta, and our long time collaborators at Rye Airfield to bring Go Skateboarding Day 2015 celebrations to Maine. Starting at 11:30 AM Sunday June 21st here in the shop's parking lot we'll have ramps, we'll be hiding Animal Chins around the greater Portland area with numbers on the back - find Animal Chin bring him in to us and get your prize, there will be a Lance Mountain inspired cardboard box skateboard race, hippie jump to see who can go the highest, and more. This skateboard holiday is about fun and the precepts taught to us by Animal Chin.
